Designer, Shona Stark started making clothes when she became tired of ‘today’s fashion’. Being an individual has always been important to her, and she definitely didn’t want to look just like the girl standing next to her. With her fine art and design background, Shona makes innovative, one-off garments each with their own special design. Wearing the Shona label creates a feeling of confidence in the knowledge that no-one else will be dressed the same – ever! Using vintage and retro fabrics, she gives each garment a unique personal style, choosing colourful, bold and contrasting fabrics and textures.

All Shona garments are one-of-a-kind pieces, partly because she hates the idea of mass-production and partly because no-one wants to wear the same thing as everyone else. Her garments are inspired by the past, designed and hand-made in Melbourne with fabrics from Australia and Europe. In Shona’s own words: “I enjoy creating these garments so much because it is exciting making something new, experimental and different each time.”

As a recent article in The Age declared: ‘The Shona label...“is for girls who would never be caught out wearing the identical outfit as the girl next to her”. Well, there’s no risk of that – each one-off, vintage-inspired re-creation is handmade with love in Stark’s Melbourne studio. After only a year, and up to her second season, dozens of individuals strut the streets safe in the knowledge they won’t be bumping into their fashion twin on a tram or a nightclub floor.’

Shona designs are only for girls who are bold enough to wear them, and not afraid to stand out in the crowd.
